Welcome Back to Ambassador Gabriel Silva

In August 2010, Gabriel Silva was appointed Ambassador of Colombia to the United States (for the second time) by President Juan Manuel Santos.

Before he was Minister of Defense during Alvaro Uribe’s presidency, Silva served as Ambassador to the United States during President Gaviría’s administration. In the private sector, he was CEO of the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia from 2002 to 2009. He was also founding partner and member of the Board of Directors of Petro Colombia S.A., and the founding president of Global Tuition and Education Insurance and Global Life Insurance S.A.

He graduated in Political Science from the University of the Andes in Bogotá and completed graduate studies in Economics and International Relations at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C. He was an honorary fellow of the Ford Foundation.

Ambassador Silva is a member of the board of Fundación Natura and the ProSierra Foundation, NGOs dedicated to environment conservation and protection. Welcome back, Mr. Ambassador!
